As a Veteran I know terrible things happen in war. My Dad also fought in the Korean War and he rarely spoke of his combat experience as many war veterans are reluctant too. But despite what happens in war and combat there seems to be a flicker of light of humanity and hope that one day all will be reconciled in time and as we know Father Time heals all wounds. Thank you for sharing this story!!

I heard many WWII wartime stories from my father who fought against the German Army in Italy and in France. I also heard stories from the soldiers that he commanded during WWII. He was wounded on October 20, 1944 in the Vosges Mountains near Bruyeres, France. He showed troop strength paper work during October, 1944 and one day lost 100 soldiers due to intense combat in the forrest. He said that it is very sad that many soldiers lost their lives during WWII. I still put flowers on soldiers graves that were killed under my father's command at Memorial Day Ceremonies and would talk to families that were related to these soldiers.

The 517th was my father's outfit. He fought up through Italy, across the Alps, and was ultimately wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. I have a couple of pictures of him in Nice, one in front of the Bagatel night club, and another of him with a pretty French girl under each arm. He was a medic who carried a weapon and refused to wear a red cross on his helmet because the Germans used it as an aim point. My brothers and I listened to his stories but couldn't comprehend the sheer brutality of what he experienced until we were grown men. It's been 25 years since he passed, and I'm sure he would have enjoyed this video and most likely recognized some of the faces and names. Remembering the hardships and sacrifice these men and their families endured gives intimate insight to the toll of war.

What a friggen shame. Two ordinary guys With ordinary jobs, ordinary homes and Families forced to take fatal actions against one another for a selfish dictator, who eventually took his own miserable life. These two soldiers probably would have been best of friends providing they were neighbors. What a shame!

How haunting was this, for the soldiers who have shot the enemy soldiers. And for the wifes, mothers and children of the shot soldiers. War is not to become a hero by shooting others but to scope with the killing of someone who have could been a Freund or friend.

What an amazing job you've done here. My Grandfather survived WW2 and only spoke of it a couple of times. War is man's insanity on parade and I wish peace to all who want it.

I spent a while wondering why this made me laugh so much, its because they're in bunker panicking about the bombs and the whole time he's worried about the scones. There's something childishly cartoonish about the whole thing, I want to see a Hanna-barbera style cartoon were he succeeds on his mission. I wish my Mrs had the same dedication to my tea , not in the dying sense. In the sense she didn't serve it to me after the oven has been bombed.

Going back and forth was common. An in law of mine her grandfather went to the us to work and send money back to Jamina Yugoslavia where there was a German enclave. He spent decades in the US working and sending money back to Jamina build that house. In 1945 they were forced to leave the region before the Soviets and abandon the house to be claimed by whoever. They went back in the 1990s to see that family house again that had been built with US currency decades before, it was under new ownership. Didn't go so well as the new owner wanted to know if they arrived to demand ownership of the house back.

Interesting learning history and yet war today brings not much though of the past only to defend.
